So many people start thinking their New Year’s Resolutions around this time of year. The number one new years resolution is staying fit and healthy. Often we think to do this, we have to go to the gym and that will help me lose weight and get fit at the same time. That is what I thought as well, but it is not true.
Nutrition is the foundation of everything we do, whether you are sick, have a disease , want to lose weight, recover faster from your workouts, etc. You need to fix your nutrition. Have you heard our abs are made in the kitchen. Well it is true.
So what do you need to do? It is so confusing. Eat in moderation? You need to eat protein? Stay away from carbs? And I could go on and on. I am going to make it simple.
We need to give our body a break from all the major triggers that inflame our body. If you can give it a rest from these foods, and eat a mostly a plant based diet, you will be amazed at how you can feel in a short amount of time.
So here are my 7 tips on how to lose weight and feel better for a new you. Try all these tips for at least 10 days to get you started
Tip 1: Take Out Dairy
Dairy is highly inflammatory to our body. It would be like scratching a wound on your body every day, it would never heal. Same is true when you eat foods like this. I know, but I love my cheese or I thought yogurt was healthy? It took me a long time to get rid of these foods, because big business does a good job of marketing. But looking at the research, it made me want to take it out of my diet and I did.
Tip 2: Take Out Gluten
This is all the buzz right now, but lets look at this closer. We like to modify our foods in this country so that the foods will last longer and therefore more profits. The problem is we end up having problems digesting the processed foods and it wreaks havoc in our body, again inflaming it like a slow burning fire. So lets stick to the whole food and take out processed foods.
Tip 3: Take Out Caffeine And Alcohol
What?!!? But I love my coffee. I cannot live without it. I love my glass of wine at the end of the day. Again, we need to give our body a break and bring our adrenal system back down to baseline. Our body needs to detox and both Caffeine and Alcohol (they are chemicals), taking away from detoxing other things. If you can pull out more of the toxins in our body, your size will go down. Fat surrounds the toxins in our body which helps to keep our waistline bigger to not fit into our pants, so if we give our body a break from triggers like caffeine and alcohol, we can get rid of other toxins in our body which will help you lose size because the fat no longer needs to protect us from that toxin! We have ways to help you wean off caffeine.
Tip 4: Eat Before 6 or 7 pm At Night
Eating before 7 pm at night gives your body a rest a night. Plus our digestion is strongest during the day. By eating earlier, your body does not have to digest the food, it can actually rest and heal from your day. Eating late will slow down your detoxification process which is how you maintain lean body mass. Bonus, you may find your sleep will get better as well.
Tip 5: Eat More Fruits And Veggies
Lets face it we have gotten away from eating real food. Did you know that we need to eat 9-13 servings of fruits and veggies everyday? If you exercise you need more… We breath in oxygen everyday. Our body needs it and uses it to stay alive, but the by product of us using oxygen is oxidative stress. The accumulation of oxidative stress is the disease process of every disease we get in this country. Anti-oxidants neutralize this stress. Plants are were you get the anti oxidants from; Not from a pill, or meat, or process foods. Eating a consistent plant based diet your body will stop your hunger when it gets the nutrition it needs, it will take what your body needs from the food, and it will help detox your toxins that are in the body. Remember the fat surrounds the toxins. Get rid of the toxins, you get rid of the fat.
Tip 6: Drink More Water
Water has so many benefits, one of which is to help flush out the toxins from our body. Some other benefits of water are: increases energy & relieves fatigue, promotes weight loss, improves skin complexion, maintains Regularity, and boosts immune system. Most of us walk around dehydrated. For some reason this one always tough for me, but when I am consistent with my water intake, it makes me feel the best.
Tip 7: Reduce your Stress
Chronic Stress wreaks havoc on your body. Your cortisol will increases and hangs around after the stressful event causing a disruption in our hormones, overeating, storage of fat and not having the ability to lose weight. It also leads to an increase in anxiety and depression. You need to find ways to reduce this chronic stress in order to improve your health and lose weight
So there you have it, my 7 tips. I take people through 10 days of these rules as a jump start, but you have more education, daily accountability, community, recipes and cookbooks.
